DESCRIPTION:Sanctioned by the International Chili Society and sponsored by WSAZ and Advantage Toyota\, the 35th year of ChiliFest in Huntington\, West Virginia\, benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities of Huntington. Since its beginnings at Ritter Park in 1983\, the event has grown to well over 20\,000 people jamming into Pullman Square in search of their favorite cup of chili.\nWhile locals look forward to ChiliFest each year\, cooking teams from all over the East Coast travel to Huntington to compete in the International Chili Society’s West Virginia State Chili Championship.\n\nThe winner of this “much heated” event qualifies to represent West Virginia at the ICS World’s Chili Championship. Cooks come from far and wide to downtown Huntington\, with their pots\, spices\, secret ingredients and chili lore for this spirited competition.\nChiliFest is a charity cook-off event benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Huntington. DESCRIPTION:This Workshop explores live sound effects for the 1940’s radio drama “Mr. Mergenthwirker’s Lobblies.” Marlette Carter\, who is the Assistant Managing Director of the Alban Arts Center\, will provide a number of sound effect tools and instruments to create a unique sound scape for Marshall University’s School of Theatre and Special Collections Library performance and collaboration. Marlette will assist students and artistic staff in manufacturing sound effect tools and instruments\, exploring Foley artist characterization\, and interaction with the cast and audience.\nThis workshop is provided free of charge to students and community members. Seating is limited\, so please indicate if you would like to attend.\nWe will be using the 6th Avenue entrance at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center. (Rear of building)

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Mark Zanter\, recipient of the 2018 John Marshall University Scholars Award and professor of music at Marshall\, will host Electrifest\, a festival of new electronic music\, from 9-11 p.m.\, Saturday\, Sept. 15\, at Black Sheep Burrito and Brews\, located in Pullman Square in downtown Huntington.\nThe event will feature live performance\, video and improvisation by artists from the Huntington area and throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.\nArtists will include Maxwell Tfirn\, Andrew Walters\, Mark Philips\, Aaron Michael Butler\, BHZ (Burke-Hall-Zanter)\, Brigid Burke\, Steve Hall\, Mark Zanter\, and PSP of Huntington.\n“The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for live performance of electronic music by local and regional artists at an all-ages venue\,” said Zanter\, coordinator of music theory/composition at Marshall. The event has been organized with the help of Tyler Cooper at Black Sheep Burritos and Brews and is anticipated to become an ongoing\, local event.\nElectrifest is open to all.
