DESCRIPTION:Marshall University School of Art & Design is pleased to present Echo/Locations\, a two-person exhibition by Marshall University Fibers Professor Miyuki Akai Cook and Houston-based artist Masumi Kataoka\, on view from October 7 through November 7\, 2024 in the Birke Art Gallery located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center. This exhibition explores our relationship with the natural world\, blending whimsical anthropomorphic animals and Japanese Folklore traditions\, while also examining the intersection of craft and fine art. \nIn addition to the exhibit\, there will be an artist talk held on Monday\, October 7 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in VAC 209\, where Kataoka will discuss her creative jewelry-making process and inspiration. There will be an opening reception to follow from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Birke Art Gallery to facilitate further conversation with the artists. \nThe exhibition will be on view October 7 through November 7\, 2024 in the Birke Art Gallery\, located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center at 927 3rd Ave\, Huntington\, WV. \nRegular gallery hours are Monday through Friday\, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. \nAdmission to the gallery and all events is free and open to the public. \nFor additional information or inquiries\, please contact Gallery Director\, Courtney Chapman\, at galleries@marshall.edu or visit https://www.marshall.edu/art/

DESCRIPTION:The Huntington Fire Department is excited to announce its annual Fire Prevention Parade\, set to take place at 7 p.m. Monday\, Oct. 7\, 2024.\n\n\nThis year’s event promises to be a spectacular display of community spirit and fire safety awareness that features colorful floats\, marching bands and a large number of fire apparatuses.\n\n\nThe parade will kick off at 12th Street on 4th Avenue and will proceed west through downtown Huntington.\n\n\nEvent highlights include:\n• Fire Apparatuses: The largest and most diverse gathering of fire trucks\, ambulances and law enforcement vehicles in the Tri-State.\n• Parade Floats: Vibrant and creative floats designed by local schools\, community groups and businesses\, each highlighting this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme.\n• Marching Bands: Performances by local high school marching bands\, adding rhythm and excitement to the parade route.\n\n\nThe Fire Prevention Parade is free and open to the public.
