DESCRIPTION:The Brass Band of the TriState will present a concert\, “World Tour\,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday\, Oct. 22\, in Smith Recital Hall on Marshall’s campus. The concert will feature music from Hungary\, Bohemia\, Italy\, Switzerland\, Australia and New Zealand. \nThe Brass Band of the TriState is a British-style brass band made up of community members\, Marshall students\, and alumni and directed by Dr. Michael Stroeher\, professor of low brass at Marshall. The British brass band is a tradition extending back almost 200 years\, and the Brass Band of the TriState is the only such ensemble in West Virginia\, Stroeher said. \n“At this concert\, the audience will hear music from many cultures\, including Italian Renaissance Dances\, a Hungarian march\, and a piece based on a Maori folktale from New Zealand\,” Stroeher said. “It’s always great to open our ears to other people’s music. DESCRIPTION:Marshall University School of Art & Design is pleased to present “Stratification”\, an exhibition by Joan C. Edwards Distinguished Professor in the Arts\, Michael DeLuca on view Sept. 16 through Oct. 24\, 2024\, in the Charles W. & Norma C. Carroll Gallery located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center. Stemming from a profound need to create\, “Stratification” highlights DeLuca’s deep engagement with materials\, offering a visual exploration of emotions and the complexities of the human condition. \nIn addition to the exhibit\, there will be an artist talk held on Thursday\, Oct. 24 from 5 to 6 p.m. in VAC 209\, where DeLuca will discuss his creative process. There will be a closing reception to follow from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Charles W. & Norma C. Carroll Gallery to facilitate further conversation with the artist and view the work on final time. \nThe exhibition will be on view Sept. 16 through Oct. 24\, 2024 in the Charles W. & Norma C.
