SUMMARY:Arsenic & Old Lace at Alchemy
DESCRIPTION:ALCHEMY THEATRE PRESENTS the classic comedy of the American theatre – ARSENIC & OLD LACE by Joseph Kesselring!\n\nPoisoners never go out of style – this timeless hit tells the story of two otherwise charming elderly ladies determined to get rid of all their lonely lodgers in the name of mercy.\nDrama critic Mortimer Brewster’s engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Abby and Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves\, only to learn that the two old women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor\, they killed him! Between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine\, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt\, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police – not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage – it’ll be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his wedding. Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic dark comedy about the only thing more deadly than poison: family.\n\nArsenic and Old Lace premiered on Broadway at the Fulton Theatre on January 10\, 1941. It was produced by the renowned duo of Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse\, and directed by Bretaigne Windust. The original Broadway cast included Jean Adair\, Josephine Hull\, Allyn Joslyn and Boris Karloff. Frank Capra’s 1944 film adaptation of the play starred Cary Grant\, with Adair and Hull reprising their performances as Mortimer’s murderous aunts.\n\nAll seating is limited and general admission. SUMMARY:Back in My Day: Grandparents Weekend at HCM
DESCRIPTION:Huntington Children’s Museum is inviting children\, grandparents and grownups of all ages to step back in time during Back in My Day: Grandparents Weekend\, September 11–13. Admission to the Museum will be free for everyone all three days. \nThroughout the weekend\, families will encounter vintage and obsolete technology stationed around the Museum\, giving children a chance to discover objects that were once part of everyday life while encouraging grownups to share their own memories and experiences. \nChildren might discover how to dial a rotary phone\, how families watched movies before streaming\, where people found answers before Google\, or how photographs were taken before everyone carried a camera in their pocket. Tables will feature items related to communication\, entertainment\, toys and games\, daily life\, and finding information before the internet. \nBut Museum Executive Director Raine Klover says the objects themselves are only part of the experience. \n“Children are naturally curious when they encounter something they’ve never seen before\, but the real fun begins when a grownup says\, ‘Oh\, I remember this!’” said Klover. “We want these objects to spark stories. A rotary phone or VHS tape becomes an opportunity for a child to learn something about the grownups in their lives.” \nConversation prompts throughout the Museum will encourage adults to tell children about their own childhoods\, from favorite toys and television shows to how they communicated with friends and researched school projects. Families will also be invited to contribute to a collaborative Memory Garden by sharing some of the things that made their own childhoods bloom. \nThe weekend is designed to celebrate Grandparents Day while welcoming all families and generations to participate. Children do not need to attend with a grandparent to enjoy the event. \nBack in My Day: Grandparents Weekend will take place Friday\, September 11 through Sunday\, September 13\, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. each day at Huntington Children’s Museum\, 1700 Washington Avenue in Huntington. Admission is free for all guests throughout the weekend. \nAbout Huntington Children’s Museum \nThe Huntington Children’s Museum is dedicated to fostering intentional play to cultivate future generations of lifelong learners\, leaders\, and problem-solvers. Located at 1700 Washington Avenue in Huntington\, the Museum features interactive exhibits designed to inspire creativity\, exploration\, and discovery through play. The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nFor media inquiries\, please contact Raine Klover at rklover@hcmkids.org.

SUMMARY:A Moment in the Sun Gallery Walk
DESCRIPTION:HMA hosts an exhibit titled A Moment in The Sun through October 18\, 2026. This exhibit will be the focus of the 4th Tuesday Tour on Sept. 22\, 2026\, from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free. \n“This exhibit was inspired by the universal human experience of recognizing that our time on Earth is precious and fleeting\,” said HMA Curator John Farley. “The artworks in this exhibit\, curated mostly from HMA’s permanent collection\, are gathered to propose an encouraging idea for the living – the mundane and the numinous coexist more often than we realize. Amid even the deepest gloom\, it is possible to find purpose\, meaning\, and joy.” \nThe title of the exhibit was inspired in 2025 when researchers in the Canary Islands filmed a deep-sea anglerfish near the surface of the ocean. “This small fish\, a female\, had spent her entire life thousands of feet below in the cold\, dark depths\,” Farley said. “Then\, in poor health\, she drifted up to the light and experienced the warmth of the sun for the first and last time.” \nCurating A Moment in The Sun has been a personal experience for Farley. “My mother\, Anne Farley\, passed away in the summer of 2024. Learning how to live with this fact\, how to orient myself each day\, has been a tremendous challenge\,” Farley said. “I came to understand that while losing Mom felt intensely personal\, grieving the loss of someone important is an experience that everyone has in common. Mom remains a great force for good in my life. I believe the same is true for all who have lost loved ones. So\, this exhibit\, A Moment in The Sun\, is really about presence\, not absence. It’s about being here together.” \nThis exhibit is presented by Byron Dan Farley and dedicated in loving memory of Anne Elizabeth Layne Farley (1953-2024). This exhibit is presented with support from The Isabelle Gwynn and Robert Daine Exhibition Endowment. This project is supported with financial assistance from the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts\, with approval of the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. For more information about HMA exhibits or membership\, visit hmoa.org or call (304) 529-2701. HMA is fully accessible. West Virginia residents may obtain a summary of the registration and financial documents from the Secretary of State\, State Capitol\, Charleston\, WV 25305. Registration does not imply endorsement.
