SUMMARY:Daniel Tiger at Huntington Children's Museum
DESCRIPTION:Families are invited to kick off the new school year with one of PBS KIDS’ most beloved neighbors during Back-to-School with Daniel Tiger\, a free community event on Saturday\, August 1\, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Huntington Children’s Museum. \nPresented by West Virginia Public Broadcasting in partnership with the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office SMART529 Plan\, the event is designed to help children and families celebrate the excitement of learning while connecting with community resources before the school year begins. \nChildren will have the opportunity to meet Daniel Tiger\, enjoy storytime\, participate in hands-on activities\, receive free PBS KIDS giveaways (while supplies last)\, and explore exhibits throughout the Huntington Children’s Museum. Community organizations will also be on hand to share resources and information for local families. \nThanks to the generous support of Uptown Musik and Fine Arts\, admission to the Huntington Children’s Museum will be free from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\, giving families the opportunity to enjoy the museum’s interactive exhibits before\, during\, and after the event. \n“Events like Back-to-School with Daniel Tiger bring together learning\, play\, and community in a way that helps children feel excited and confident about the school year ahead\,” said Raine Klover\, Executive Director of the Huntington Children’s Museum. “We’re grateful to partner with West Virginia Public Broadcasting\, the SMART529 Plan\, and Uptown Musik and Fine Arts to make this experience available free of charge for local families.” \nThe event is free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to arrive early\, as Daniel Tiger appearances and giveaways are expected to be popular.

Admission is $5 on Saturday\, Aug. 15\, and free on Sunday\, Aug. 16. \nVolunteers and HMA staff members sort and arrange the used books by categories prior to the Hilltop Book Fair. \nBook prices on Saturday\, Aug. 15\, will be $1 for each children’s book; $2 for each paperback book; and $3 for each hardcover book. On Sunday\, Aug. 16\, from noon to 5 p.m. you can fill a box with books for $10. HMA will provide the boxes for this special deal. \nHilltop Book Fair is sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Tourism through its West Virginia Fairs & Festivals grant program. \nHMA cannot accept any additional books for this year’s Hilltop Book Fair after Aug. 2. HMA asks those wishing to donate used books after Aug. 2 to wait until September 2026 to deliver those used books to the loading dock behind the Museum.

SUMMARY:Indoor Garden Party at HMA
DESCRIPTION:The Huntington Museum of Art will host an indoor Garden Party on August 25\, 2026\, from 6 to 8 p.m. as part of its 4th Tuesday Tour Series. To add to the fun of the event\, guests are welcome to dress in tea party attire inspired by fashions worn during America’s Gilded Age or London Regency\, Edwardian or Victorian times. Admission is free. \n“In honor of the 30th Anniversary of the C. Fred Edwards Conservatory this year\, we will be hosting our 2nd annual indoor Garden Party\,” said HMA Director of Education Cindy Dearborn\, who plans the 4th Tuesday Tour Series at HMA. “People will have access to the C. Fred Edwards Conservatory of tropical and subtropical plants and can enjoy Garden Party refreshments in the air-conditioned comfort of HMA’s Virginia Van Zandt Great Hall.” \nThe event will include an art activity. Members of HMA’s Docent Corps will be available to discuss selected works from “The Daywood Collection” exhibit\, which continues on view at HMA through Feb. 14\, 2027. \n“The Daywood Collection features some of HMA’s most beloved American and European paintings by such artists as Robert Henri\, Frank Weston Benson\, Frederick Childe Hassam\, and many others\,” Dearborn said. \nThe Garden Party is part of “A Season of Celebrating the C. Fred Edwards Conservatory Presented by Leslie Petteys in Memory of Fannie Christner.” \nThis exhibit is presented with support from The Isabelle Gwynn and Robert Daine Exhibition Endowment. \nThis project is supported with financial assistance from the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts\, with approval of the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
