SUMMARY:Arts Night Out - July Edition
DESCRIPTION:Cool visual art\, an interactive art exchange\, a great discussion about the art of writing\, a plant swap\, and comedy – Arts Night Out is branching out again! Join us Wednesday\, July 28th\, 6 pm – 9 pm at Heritage Station for Arts Night Out! Arts Night Out will feature Wheeling artist and illustration Logan Schmitt and Huntington Fiction Factory will host writer Connie Kinsey. Nomada Bakery will host a plant exchange for all the plant moms and plant dads out there. And you have the opportunity to earn free art in exchange for random acts of kindness! \n\nLogan Schmitt is an illustrator who grew up in the woods in Wheeling\, West Virginia. His fascination with nature and the small places of the forest are ever-present in his work and are a continual source of inspiration. Stylistically\, he uses lots of lines and flat colors to present animals and other natural elements in an otherworldly light. When he isn’t illustrating posters for bands or designing t-shirts\, you can find him somewhere in the woods or down by the creek. He lives in Wheeling with his wife and owl figurines. \n\nConnie Kinsey is a former military brat who has put down deep roots in a converted barn on a dirt road at the top of a hill in West Virginia. She lives with two dogs and a cat and is pursuing happiness\, one cup of coffee at a time. Her writing has won awards and has been published online and in print. She blogs at http://wvfurandroot.com and is wild about comments. \n\nArt\, Action\, and Intention is a unique way for you to acquire art through charitable donations\, volunteerism\, or random acts of kindness. Works can be “purchased” through contributions of time\, talent\, or treasure. Art\, Action\, and Intention supports local non-profits and businesses and believes in promoting a kinder\, more compassionate community. Visit the Art\, Action\, and Intention table at Full Circle Gifts & Goods.\nSpeaking of Full Circle\, Scott & Noelle will host their first post-pandemic tile carving event.\nThey will have different colors of 6”x 6” handmade clay tiles prepped and ready for you to carve with your own designs\, so come with ideas but know that they will have stencils available for those of you who might feel less inspired.\nNoelle will be on hand for questions and basic instructions\, but what you do with your tile is up to you.\nLeave your creation with them and they will fire and glaze them with a clear glaze for you to pick up later. This is an opportunity to get a feel for how the clay process works and end up with something lovely for yourself.\nThe Details:\nThe cost will be $28 per tile\nPlease choose your color and pay in advance by Monday\, July 26th so that we can have time to make enough tiles for everyone.\nSpace is limited\, so please sign up early to get your preferred time slot. Visit their website to reserve your time slot. \n\nHuntington Comedy will join us on Taps at Heritage’s patio. Enjoy a few laughs and adult beverages to end your evening. The show begins at 8 pm. \n\nWhile you’re at Heritage Station check out the other shops including the Gumbo Stop Cafe\, Full Circle Gifts and Goods\, The Historic Hippie\, Taps at Heritage\, and Birds of a Feather Boutique.\n  \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Huntington Museum of Art - Fine Art Sale
DESCRIPTION:The Huntington Museum of Art has announced that it will conduct a special Fine Art Sale of pastels by the noted American artist Leon Dolice (1892-1960). An online sale goes live on Aug. 4\, 2021\, at 11 a.m. at: THE DOLICE SALE. Works not sold beforehand will be available for viewing and purchase at the Huntington Museum of Art on Aug. 6\, 7 and 8\, 2021. Works will be sold on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nTo purchase one of the works shown online\, buyers should send an email to gfleming@hmoa.org with the number and title of the work or works that they wish to purchase. \n“The Huntington Museum of Art is pleased to present this collection of more than 20 works by New York artist Leon Dolice\, who is known for his striking New York cityscapes\,” said Geoffrey K. Fleming\, HMA’s Executive Director. “And one of the extraordinary things about this grouping is the large size of each work\, with the pastels coming in at approximately 12 x 19 inches each.” \nLeon Dolice was born in Vienna\, Austria in 1892\, and went on to study art in Europe. He immigrated to the United States in 1920\, finding a retreat in the European Bohemianism of Greenwich Village\, where he picked the streets of this landmark neighborhood as his first subjects. Though he originally concentrated on etching\, as that medium declined\, he focused almost exclusively on pastels depicting New York City\, devoting all his time to chronicling the architecture\, back streets\, dock scenes and other nostalgia that was fast disappearing from the face of Manhattan. He won numerous accolades for his work\, and although he traveled the East Coast recording landmarks in other cities including Washington\, D.C.\, Baltimore\, Chicago and Philadelphia\, he always returned to his new home of New York. \nDolice’s works are included in the Museum of the City of New York; The New York Public Library; The New York Historical Society; Georgetown University Lauinger Library; and The Print Club of Philadelphia\, among others. \n“We are pleased to feature these works which come with sterling provenance\,” continued Fleming\, “the group having originally been part of the famed collection assembled by the noted Spanierman Gallery of New York City. Owned and operated by the respected art dealer Ira Spanierman\, the collection features some of the finest examples of works by Dolice that have ever surfaced on the market.” \nThe works included in this special sale depict soft and misty views of Manhattan’s coastline and shipyards as well as its soaring skyscrapers and bridges. \nA significant portion of proceeds from the Fine Art Sale of Leon Dolice pastels will benefit the Huntington Museum of Art. Works will be sold on a first-come\, first-served basis. Shipping is available at the purchaser’s expense through the UPS Store in Ashland\, Ky. \nIn the past few years\, the Huntington Museum of Art has conducted fine art sales featuring the work of Chuck Ripper\, 2016; Wolf Kahn\, 2017; Don Pendleton\, 2018; Adele Thornton Lewis\, 2019; and Stan Sporny\, 2020. \nFor more information on events at HMA\, call (304) 529-2701 or visit www.hmoa.org. HMA is fully accessible. \nWest Virginia residents may obtain a summary of the registration and financial documents from the Secretary of State\, State Capitol\, Charleston\, WV 25305. Registration does not imply endorsement.

SUMMARY:Blenko's 14th Annual Festival of Glass

We will also offer a 15% off sale on most items in our Visitor Center Gift Shop on Friday\, August 6 through Sunday\, August 8 and as a way to virtually share the art of glassblowing we will broadcast a live video on our Facebook page on Friday\, August 6 around 9:30am EST showing our hot shops crafting this year’s Festival of Glass pieces. \nOur desire is to once again celebrate glass with you without putting you or our staff at risk. Thank you for your understanding and we hope that you can join us either here in Milton\, WV or virtually for our 14th Annual Festival of Glass.
