DESCRIPTION:Marshall University Dance will perform its second annual Spring Dance Concert\, “Innovate\, Collaborate\, Celebrate” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday\, March 16\, at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse. The performance is presented by the Marshall University School of Theatre and Marshall University Auditoria\, and is free and open to the public.\nThe Marshall University Dance Theatre\, MU’s performance dance company\, is made up of 19 dancers from diverse styles and backgrounds in dance. Under the direction of Adjunct Dance Professor Leah Copley Summers\, they will present a wide variety of styles from classical ballet to hip-hop.\nThe company will be joined by over 60 dancers from the Tri-State region\, along with the MU Jazz Ensemble\, directed by Jeff Wolfe\, assistant professor of music\, as well as John Porter\, a student composer/musician under the direction of Dr. Mark Zanter\, professor of music.\nCompanies joining MUDT this year are: Beckley Dance Theatre (directed by Jerry Rose); River Cities Dance Company (directed by Lauren Burgess and Emily Cantrell Stephenson); The Academy of Performing Arts at January’s (directed by January Wolfe); River Cities Youth Ballet Ensemble (directed by Michelle Raider); professional dancer Jessica Lynn Fox; Ultimate Dance Legacy (directed by Laura Phillips); the MU High School Ensemble (dancers from Arts in Action\, directed by Joni Cantrell and Cookie Cantrell Samson); and Huntington Dance Theatre (directed by Meredith Cornell).\nThe evening will prove to be a magical evening of dance and music from artists from not only Marshall University\, but also artists from across the region. DESCRIPTION:Marshall University’s College of Liberal Arts will host a “Herd in Town” panel discussion with retiring faculty members Dr. Paige Muellerleile and John Van Kirk at 6 p.m. Monday\, March 18\, at Fat Patty’s\, 1935 3rd Ave.\nMuellerleile is a professor in the Department of Psychology\, specializing in social psychology with a focus as a gender and health care statistician. She has authored multiple research articles\, presentations and grants and has been an active volunteer in the Marshall and Huntington community\, serving as Faculty Senate chair and board president for the CONTACT Rape Crisis Center.\nVan Kirk is a professor from the Department of English and author of the novel Song for Chance (2013). An award-winning teacher\, writer\, author\, poet and former naval aviator\, his work has been published in The New York Times Magazine\, The Hudson Review\, The Iowa Review\, West Branch\, Kestrel\, The Sonora Review and Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine\, as well as in several anthologies.\n“Herd in Town” is a series of panel discussions organized by Marshall’s College of Liberal Arts to facilitate conversations and share the expertise of Marshall faculty. The aim is to bring the campus and the community together to strengthen relationships\, learn from each other and benefit Huntington and the region.\nThe event is open to the public.

She currently is a practicing licensed family physician and an assistant professor of medical education with Marshall.\nJustin McElroy is a 15-year journalism veteran with two awards from the Ohio Associated Press for business writing. He has served as the managing editor of AOL’s Joystiq and Vox Media’s Polygon (of which he’s also a founder).
