DESCRIPTION:The Marshall School of Theatre will perform The Laramie Project at February 18\, 19\, 20\, 21\, and 22 in the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse at 7:30pm. \nIn October 1998\, a twenty‐one‐year‐old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped\, severely beaten\, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie\, Wyoming. His bloody\, bruised\, and battered body was not discovered until the next day\, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard\, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half\, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case\, while others were citizens of Laramie\, and the breadth of the reactions to the crime is fascinating. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie. DESCRIPTION:The Marshall School of Theatre will perform The Laramie Project at February 18\, 19\, 20\, 21\, and 22 in the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse at 7:30pm. \nIn October 1998\, a twenty‐one‐year‐old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped\, severely beaten\, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie\, Wyoming. His bloody\, bruised\, and battered body was not discovered until the next day\, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard\, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half\, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case\, while others were citizens of Laramie\, and the breadth of the reactions to the crime is fascinating. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie. To say he was larger than life is an understatement. Who else has a near music festival as an annual birthday party? Zilla Bash celebrates not only he and his beloved Cheri’s birthday week but their love of fostering new bands in our area. We booked Bob’s band Moonshine Crossing early and often. Many times for charity shows as Moonshine Crossing and Bob were always the first to line up to help someone. Bob was always the first to smile at ya\, hug ya\, wrestle ya\, buy a shot for ya\, cheer your band on and the last one to leave. As Chad Lovejoy said “if he was your friend\, he would march into the gates of hell after he gave you the shirt off his back.” We can’t bring Bob back but we can all try and love good people\, good times and good music with a brave heart like Zilla.
