SUMMARY:Alchemy Theatre presents the Dramatic Comedy PVT WARS
DESCRIPTION:Alchemy Theatre proudly presents the James McLure dramatic comedy PVT. WARS\, directed by Brian Cook.\nThis is the first full production of our 2023 season “If You Knew My Story”.\n**This play contains adult language and situations**\nWHEN & WHERE:\nThis is Alchemy’s first full production in our new HOME! Alchemy Theatre’s Geneva Kent Center for the Arts – 68 Holley Avenue\, Huntington\, WV 25705\nFridays & Saturdays are evening shows\nSundays are matinees\nSunday\, April 30 at 2:00PM\nWHAT IS THE PLAY ABOUT:\nThree G.I.s recovering from Vietnam War injuries while away their time on the terrace of an Army hospital.\nGately\, a hillbilly\, fiddles compulsively with a disemboweled radio; Silvio\, a streetwise\, big-city type\, is addicted to “flashing” (even though his sex organs have suffered—he thinks—irremediable battle damage); while Natwick\, a prissy “rich kid” from Long Island\, writes letters to his mother telling her how much he wants to become a close friend of Gately (while omitting mention of how actively Silvio dislikes him).\nComprised of a series of brief blackout scenes\, the play blends these into a meaningful mosaic as the three tease\, torment\, entertain\, exasperate and\, on occasion\, solace each other—maintaining throughout a hilarity that belies their deep concern about the uncertainties of the civilian world to which they will soon be returning.

SUMMARY:Snarky Puppy at The Ritter in Huntington\, WV
DESCRIPTION:After over a decade of relentless touring and recording in all but complete obscurity\, the Texas-bred quasi-collective suddenly found itself held up by the press and public as one of the major figures in the jazz world. But as the category names for all four of the band’s Grammy® awards would indicate (Best R&B Performance in 2014\, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016\, 2017\, and 2021)\, Snarky Puppy isn’t exactly a jazz band. It’s not a fusion band\, and it’s definitely not a jam band. It’s probably best to take Nate Chinen of the New York Times’ advice\, as stated in an online discussion about the group\, to “take them for what they are\, rather than judge them for what they’re not.”

Alchemy Theatre’s Geneva Kent Center for the Arts – 68 Holley Avenue\, Huntington\, WV 25705\nFridays & Saturdays are evening shows\nSundays are matinees\nSunday\, April 23 at 2:00PM\nWHAT IS THE PLAY ABOUT:\nThree G.I.s recovering from Vietnam War injuries while away their time on the terrace of an Army hospital.\nGately\, a hillbilly\, fiddles compulsively with a disemboweled radio; Silvio\, a streetwise\, big-city type\, is addicted to “flashing” (even though his sex organs have suffered—he thinks—irremediable battle damage); while Natwick\, a prissy “rich kid” from Long Island\, writes letters to his mother telling her how much he wants to become a close friend of Gately (while omitting mention of how actively Silvio dislikes him).\nComprised of a series of brief blackout scenes\, the play blends these into a meaningful mosaic as the three tease\, torment\, entertain\, exasperate and\, on occasion\, solace each other—maintaining throughout a hilarity that belies their deep concern about the uncertainties of the civilian world to which they will soon be returning.
