DESCRIPTION:– The City of Huntington and Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District will host Fit Fest 2023\, an event to celebrate the life of Dr. Paul Ambrose and to raise funds to maintain and expand the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health (PATH)\, on Saturday\, Sept. 9\, at Ritter Park. \nThe rain-or-shine event will include a 5K run/walk organized by O Such Tri-State Race Planners\, bike rides on the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health\, a bike rodeo for children that will teach bike skills and safety through a fun obstacle course\, and kids’ activities through the Huntington YMCA and the Huntington Children’s Museum. \nAll kids’ activities\, the bike ride and bike rodeo are free. Registration for the 5K run/walk is $25 before Sept. 9 and $30 on the morning of the event. Registration for the 5K run/walk is available at Tri-State Racer (https://tristateracer.com/race/12076). \nThe schedule for the event is as follows: \n\n8 a.m.: day-of registration for the 5K begins\n9 a.m.: 5K begins\n10 a.m.: 5K awards ceremony and moment of remembrance\n10:05 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: kids’ activities (bike rodeo\, YMCA and Huntington Children’s Museum activities)\n10:15 a.m.: Bike Rides leave from Ritter Park Shelter # 2 on the PATH\n10:30 am: Kids Fun Run\n\nThe bike rodeo will give kids and new riders an opportunity to practice safe bicycling habits with obstacle courses and challenges to build skills while having fun. Three bicycle rides (6 miles\, 10 miles and a long-distance ride) will highlight various sections of the PATH. The City of Huntington also will sell vintage bicycle license plates for $1 and provide information about the PATH. \nFit Fest is a celebration of healthy activities in the vision of Dr. Paul Ambrose’s legacy in the community\, and a fundraiser for the maintenance and expansion of the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health. Dr. Ambrose received his medical degree from Marshall University and dedicated his life to improving health outcomes and fighting obesity. DESCRIPTION:FitFest is an event in honor Dr. Paul Ambrose\, a Huntington physician who was killed in the 9/11 attacks and dedicated his work to improving health outcomes\, and a fundraiser for the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health (PATH) an 18.6 mile bicycle and pedestrian trail system providing free recreation and alternative transportation opportunities for Huntington and surrounding areas. The City of Huntington\, Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation District and O Such Race Planners are partnering to hold a 5K on Saturday\, September 9 in Ritter Park as part of Fit Fest 2023. Proceeds from the race will go towards maintaining and expanding the PATH in order to attain the vision of having a safe\, connected trail system around the city. \nIn addition to the 5K walk/run we will have an opportunity for an approximately 6 mile bike ride and 10 mile bike ride of different sections of the PATH. These bike rides are FREE and family friendly! We will have route leaders\, fun facts and information about the PATH and future PATH connections and will be supported by our City of Huntington Huntington Police Department Bike Patrol. No need to pre-register for these free rides but come the day of and get out on your bike! \nRegistration begins at 8am.

DESCRIPTION:In cooperation with our partner\, Beech Fork Lake State Park of WV State Parks\, MITA will be celebrating the 268th anniversary of Mary Ingles’s odyssey in 1755 as she was captured by\, and escaped from\, the Shawnee Indians. \nFriday\, Sept 15\, will focus on school-age groups\, both public and home-schooled. There will be living history\, skills demonstrations\, dramatic portrayals from characters that influenced Mary Ingles’s life\, as well as hands-on activities. \nSaturday and Sunday\, Sept 16-17\, will feature living history\, demos\, tomahawk throw and lacross\, as well as dramatic presentation and explorations into the lives of some of the people who influenced Mary’s life. Beech Fork campers and visitors are welcome to visit the camp and interact with the living historians during public hours. \nThe living history encampment will be open 9-5 Friday\, 9-3 Saturday\, 10-3 Sunday. DESCRIPTION:Funktafest 7\, the annual music festival that takes place in Huntington\, is gearing up to be one of the most electrifying events of the year. The festival is set to run from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday\, Sept. 16th\, 2023\, at The Ritter amphitheater. The festival is an all-you-can-groove music festival that features some of the top funk\, jam\, rock and other groove-related music from the area and region’s best musicians. This year\, there will be 16 different acts from all over the United States to keep the crowd entertained throughout the day.\nIn addition to the music\, there will be a variety of regional arts and crafts\, food\, and craft beer vendors available for festival-goers. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample a variety of delicious foods from local vendors and indulge in some of the best craft beers the region has to offer. The regional arts and crafts vendors will also provide an excellent opportunity to purchase unique gifts and souvenirs to commemorate the day.\nTickets for Funktafest 7 are currently available for purchase\, with General Admission tickets priced at $20 and VIP Passes at $70 during the EYE SPY EARLY BIRD ticketing tier through May 26th\, 2023. After that date\, ticket prices will incrementally increase every two months\, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead and purchase tickets early to save some money. Admission is free for children 12 and under when accompanied by a supervising adult\, making it an excellent opportunity for families to enjoy a day out together.\nOne of the best things about Funktafest 7 is the variety of entertainment available throughout the day. In addition to the music and vendor offerings\, there will be live visual arts\, fire and flow artists\, and a silent disco featuring DJs from the festival.
