SUMMARY:Siege of Fort Randolph
DESCRIPTION:Fort Randolph was orinally built in 1776 on the original site of Fort Blair\,\nbuilt during Lord Dunmor’s War at the juncture of the Kanawha and Ohio\nRivers.  In 1777\, Shawnee Chief Cornstalk was murdered at the fort\, along\nwith his son Elinipsico and two other unnamed Shawnee warriors.\nIn 1778\, the Shawnee laid seige to the Fort in retaliation for the murder\nof their beloved leader. In 1779 the fort was abandoned and later burned by\nNative Indians. The fort was rebuilt in 1785 and abandoned soon after.\n​ In 1973\, Fort Randolph was rebuilt in Krodel Park\, a mile from\nits original site.\nThe Siege is held annually on the third weekend of May. Reenactors are welcome to participate and preregistration is encouraged. The Fort will be open to the public from 9:00 am-5:00 pm on May 19 and 20th\, with the\ndrama at 2:00 pm. Tour the fort and speak with costumed reenactors about\n​18th century frontier skills. DESCRIPTION:On May 19\, 2018\, join over one million people at hundreds of national\, state\, and local parks\, and public lands across the country taking part in the 8th annual National Park Trust Kids to Parks Day (KTP Day). KTP Day is a nationally coordinated day designed to connect kids and families with their local\, state\, and national parks. By coordinating a wide array of park activities on a single day\, Kids to Parks Day attracts new park goers and helps connect existing park enthusiasts with local organizations in the hopes of creating park advocates and stewards.\nThe Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District will partner with New Heights Church to host a Kids to Parks Day event at April Dawn Park in Milton on Saturday\, May 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We’ll have inflatables\, yard games\, hot dogs\, and a dunking booth! Of course\, kids will want to cool off in the April Dawn Splash Park too! The Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District and Huntington Area Regional Theater will host Shrek & Fiona’s Swamp Carnival at the New Picnic Shelter in Ritter Park on Saturday\, May 19 from noon to 2:30 p.m.\nSpend a medieval afternoon with the Choose Joy Players as they turn Ritter Park into Shrek & Fiona’s Swamp! Games will include Dorothy’s Dunking Booth\, Pin the Tail on Donkey\, Ugly Duckling’s Pond\, Ariel’s Sack Races\, Lord Farquaad’s Noodle Jousting\, Snow White’s Basket Toss\, and more! Kids will make their very own Freak Flag and enjoy swamp juice and snacks. Everyone will enjoy the “I’m a Believer” Dance Party hosted by Alice in Wonderland and Little Red Riding Hood\, Pinocchio’s Puppet Show\, and Tattoos by the Pied Piper!\nMake plans to join us for Shrek & Fiona’s Swamp Carnival!
