SUMMARY:New River Train Excursion
DESCRIPTION:The Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society is proud to present the world-renowned New River Train excursions through the beautiful New River Gorge in southern West Virginia. As one of the newest national parklands\, the “Grand Canyon of the East” along the New River is majestic and breathtaking in fall colors in mid to late October. It is during this peak autumn foliage time that our train traverses the former Chesapeake & Ohio mainline from Huntington\, WV to Hinton\, WV\, allowing for a front-row seat to some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.\nEach of the four trips depart at 8:30 a.m. from the platform at the Huntington C&O Depot located at 935 7th Avenue in Huntington. The train will later stop in St. Albans\, giving coach passengers the option of two boarding locations. When purchasing Premium and Dome Service\, you have to board in Huntington. After leaving Huntington\, the train rolls through the Teays Valley area to the Kanawha River near St. Albans\, staying along the Kanawha all the way to the mouth of the New River at Gauley Bridge. The tracks then follow the New River for the remainder of the trip into Hinton.\nLandmarks and scenic locations on the route include downtown Charleston and the State Capitol building\, Insitute of Technology\, of West Virginia University in Montgomery\, Kanawha Falls\, Hawks Nest Dam and bridge\, the famous New River Gorge Bridge at Fayetteville\, Grandview\, Stretcher Neck Tunnel\, Sandstone Falls\, and numerous historical artifacts and towns from the New River’s rich coal mining era.\nWe will be stopping in Hinton\, WV for a layover for no more than 3 hours. Time spent in Hinton may be between 1 hour and 3 hours due to other railroad traffic on the mainline. While in Hinton\, you will be able to enjoy the Railroad Days Festival. The festival will be open all four (4) days we run.\nAfter enjoying the Railroad Days Festival\, we will board the train and head back to Huntington.\nFor more information and tickets please call 304-523-0364 or visit www.newrivertrain.com

SUMMARY:C-K Autumnfest
DESCRIPTION:The C-K AutumnFest takes place the last weekend in October in the two quaint communities of Ceredo and Kenova. The centerpiece of the festival is the famous Pumpkin House\, which has become one of the favorite tourist attractions of West Virginia. In 1978\, the Pumpkin House began with only 4 pumpkins carved for a Halloween display. Since then\, the number of hand-carved pumpkins has grown to 3\,000. Wait until it gets dark the weekend of the festival if you want to see the Pumpkin House in its fully carved splendor.\nThis is a family event. There will be an old-fashioned bake-off with some of the best bakers in the area competing. Get an early start on your holiday shopping with the beautiful hand-made items offered at our arts and crafts show. Don’t miss the cruise-in and tractor show.  Be sure to take advantage of the food vendors located at the Pumpkin House on Beech Street in Kenova. You can bet you won’t have to look very hard to find a selection of delicious food. For a full schedule of activities and fun things planned please check www.ckautumnfest.com
