SUMMARY:Guyandotte Civil War Days: Robert E. Lee
DESCRIPTION:As commander of the Army of Northern Virginia\, General Robert E. Lee gained a reputation as one of the most audacious military leaders in the history of the United States. He endeared himself to his men and gained the respect of leaders on both sides of the contest. Al Stone will be portraying General Lee as that night’s lecturer. Al Stone has been doing so for many years\, appearing s at numerous reenactments each year as well as making appearances in schools and theaters. He has also portrayed The General in several documentaries and is regarded by leading historians and reenactors alike as offering the most accurate impression of General Robert E Lee in the nation. SUMMARY:Forever Plaid
DESCRIPTION:Forever Plaid is one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory. This deliciously fun revue is chock-full of classic barbershop quartet harmonies and pitch-perfect melodies!\nOnce upon a time\, there were four guys (Sparky\, Smudge\, Jinx and Frankie) who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols – The Four Freshman\, The Hi-Lo’s and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of Smudge’s family’s plumbing supply company\, they became “Forever Plaid”. On the way to their first big gig\, the “Plaids” are broadsided by a school bus and killed instantly. It is at the moment when their careers and lives end that the story of Forever Plaidbegins….\nSinging in close harmony\, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with overzealous precision\, the “Plaids” are a guaranteed smash\, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they’re not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the 1950s.\nTickets are $35\nFor tickets or more information please call 606.324.0007 or visit www.paramountartscenter.com

SUMMARY:Thunder in the Village: Guyandotte Civil War Days
DESCRIPTION:On November 10th\, 1861 the sleepy southern town of Guyandotte was firmly in Union hands. Confederate raiders struck suddenly and quickly\, capturing the Garrison and returning the village to the dominion of the Stars and Bars. That conquest was short-lived\, however. As the Confederates were leaving town the next morning with 110 Richmond-bound prisoners in tow\, Union liberators returned and took vengeance on what they considered a “seesech” (secession) town. By nightfall\, two-thirds of the village had been burned to the ground. Today\, the dirt roads are paved\, modern buildings have replaced many of the burned out frames\, and Guyandotte is a part of contemporary Huntington\, West Virginia. Come join us where history was made as the sights and sounds of the Civil War return the week of October 31st through November 4th\, 2018 as hundreds of re-enactors participate in “America’s greatest street battle.”\nSaturday\, November 3\, 2018 \nOpening Ceremonies at VFW Post 9738 – from 9:30 to 10 AM\nCamps Open to Public from 10:00 AM to – 4:00 PM\nThe 1st Street Battle from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM\nStan Clardy with Bobby Lee Opossum – 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM\nMadie Carroll House – Open for tours from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM\nHaunted History Tour (Guyandotte Library) 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM\nPeriod Dress Military Ball (VFW Post 9738 Grand Hall) from 8:00 PM  to 11:00 PM \nSunday\, November 4\, 2018 \nMemorial Service in Front of the VFW Post 9738 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM\nCamps Open to Public from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM\nChurch Services (at local churches) from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM\nScenario: Marching of Union prisoners out of town from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM\nThe 2nd Street Battle from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM\nScenario: The attempted burning of Carroll House from 2:45 PM to 3:15 PM

SUMMARY:Diamond Rio
DESCRIPTION:Diamond Rio will be performing at the Paramount Arts Center November 3 at 7pm. \nDiamond Rio evolved from the Tennessee River Boys\, a band that performed at the former Opryland theme park. Singer Marty Roe\, guitarist Jimmy Olander and keyboardist Dan Truman left that group to form their own in 1986. Drummer Brian Prout and mandolin player Gene Johnson joined the new band in 1987. Bassist Dana Williams — a nephew of Opry members Sonny Osborne and Bobby Osborne — came on board two years later. \n\n\n\n\n“I still have memories of running around backstage at the Ryman with my cousin\, seeing Stoney Cooper backstage sitting there\, waiting on time to go\,” Dana recalls. “I was just a young punk kid with no idea of what I was experiencing at the time\, what kind of history and what it all really meant. I wish I’d known then what I know now.” \nIn 1991\, Diamond Rio’s first single\, “Meet in the Middle\,” went to No. 1 — the first group in country music history to top the charts with its debut. The band followed “Meet in the Middle” with the hits “Mirror\, Mirror” and “Mama Don’t Forget to Pray for Me.” In all\, Diamond Rio has placed more than 30 singles on Billboard magazine’s country charts\, including such chart-toppers as “How Your Love Makes Me Feel\,” “One More Day\,” “Beautiful Mess\,” and “I Believe.” The 2001 hit ballad “One More Day” became a key song of healing after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. \nIn 2004\, Diamond Rio received the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award for its work on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America\, for which the band members serve as National Ambassadors\, as well as the American Lung Association\, and others. \nDiamond Rio signed with Word Records in 2007\, releasing a holiday collection called A Diamond Rio Christmas: The Star Still Shines. In 2009\, the band followed with The Reason\, and the group’s members told their story in an autobiography titled after one of their most popular hits — “A Beautiful Mess.” They continue to keep a busy touring schedule.\n\n\n\n\nTickets are $34 – 71\nFor tickets or more information please call 606.324.0007 or visit www.paramountartscenter.com
