SUMMARY:Arts Night Out - March Edition
DESCRIPTION:What do vintage threads\, cryptids\, horror-writing\, and Art Deco woodworking have in common? They’re all going to be celebrated at the March edition of Arts Night Out. Join us on Thursday\, March 12th\, 6 pm – 9 pm at the Visitors Center at Heritage Station to celebrate the local arts scene. Huntington Fiction Factory and the Visitors Center will host author Michael Knost discussing Relational Influence. The Red Caboose will host a pop-up by Morgantown illustrator Liz Pavlovic Design and feature her work in the shop and Nomada Bakery will host a vintage clothing pop-up by After.Birth Vintage. Across the patio Sip Wine and Whiskey Bar will host an exhibition opening by woodworking duo Pattern Of Integrity. If you need to make some art yourself head down to Full Circle Gifts and Goods to carve your own ceramic tile. Heritage Station is located at 210 11th Street in the heart of downtown Huntington. Arts Night Out is always free and open to the public. \nAt 7 pm\, Huntington Fiction Factory and Sheila Redling will host local author Michael Knost in the Visitors Center community room. Michael is a Bram Stoker Award®-winning editor and author of science fiction\, fantasy\, horror\, and supernatural thrillers. He will be talking about Relational Influence in fiction writing and how it adds depth\, realism\, and credibility to every set piece – as well as character – in your story. \nNomada will host a vintage pop-up for the modern shopper. Ben of After.Birth Vintage will offer a carefully curated line of vintage clothing focuses on vintage tees. Nomada will also be open throughout the evening. \nThe Red Caboose is excited to host Liz Pavlovic. Her work has been in the shop since 2018\, but this will be her first exhibition. “A lot of my work is inspired by experiences in West Virginia and Appalachia\, but I’m always fascinated by the weird and mundane anywhere\,” says Liz. “I’m drawn to things that are often overlooked\, so I end up exploring a lot of food traditions\, obscure monsters\, and urban myths. I love digging deeper into obsessions and cliches\, and often use wordplay and visual humor in my work.” \nAmber and Brandon of Pattern of Integrity have created a series of woodworking pieces specifically for Sip’s space. Their colorful work is inspired by Art Deco design. \nNoelle and Scott of Full Circle Gifts and Goods will host another fun night of tile-carving. Bring your own designs and ideas or use some of Noelle’s templates. Cost is $25 and time slots must be reserved in advance. Go to their event Carve Your Own Tile at Arts Night Out to reserve your spot. \nArts Night Out is a multidisciplinary arts event that occurs at Heritage Station in the heart of downtown Huntington the second Thursday of every month.

It focuses on two couples\, Buddy and Sally Durant Plummer and Benjamin and Phyllis Rogers Stone\, who are attending the reunion. Sally and Phyllis were showgirls in the Follies. Both couples are deeply unhappy with their marriages. Buddy\, a traveling salesman\, is having an affair with a girl on the road; Sally is still as much in love with Ben as she was years ago; and Ben is so self-absorbed that Phyllis feels emotionally abandoned. Several of the former showgirls perform their old numbers\, sometimes accompanied by the ghosts of their former selves. The musical numbers in the show have been interpreted as pastiches of the styles of the leading Broadway composers of the 1920s and ’30s\, and sometimes as parodies of specific songs. \nThe Broadway production opened on April 4\, 1971\, directed by Harold Prince and Michael Bennett\, and with choreography by Bennett. The musical was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and won seven. The original production ran for over 500 performances. The musical has had a number of major revivals\, and several of its songs have become standards\, including “Broadway Baby”\, “I’m Still Here”\, “Too Many Mornings”\, “Could I Leave You?”\, and “Losing My Mind”.

SUMMARY:Route 60 Saturday Night
DESCRIPTION:Our Saturday\, March 21\, show starts our sixth season with guest sets by veteran West Virginia blues star Chris Sutton and exciting new singer-songwriter Stacee Lawson Stanley. The monthly 90-minute music variety show begins at 7 p.m. at Route 60 Music Co.\, 60 Peyton St.\, Barboursville. Hosted by Michelle Lewis\, the show\, which takes the stage on the third Saturday night of each month\, features The 1937 Flood as the house band. In addition\, each month’s show features new and established musical acts as guest artists. \n\nHere are the headliners for the upcoming show: \n— Stacee Lawson Stanley\, born and raised in Logan WV and now a transplant in Ohio\, is no stranger to the music scene. Starting off in school choirs to secretly singing karaoke in college and moving on up to songwriting\, it is a passion that she doesn’t plan on giving up soon. She was also the front woman to her long-time band Under Social\, and Luna Park. Getting back to her acoustic roots she just released the first single “Angels\,” that will be on an upcoming EP. \n— Chris Sutton has been playing his blues and roots songs form his home in West Virginia around the region and all the way to Italy\, India and Nepal for the past decade. He is a talented songwriter\, a powerful singer and a versatile guitar player. He was befriended by and mentored by the late great West Virginia bluesman Nat Reese and was fortunate enough to play with him many times during the past decade. Chris completed his first official colletion of songs back in 2013 at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis. “The Sun Studio Recordings” is Chris alone with his guitar playing the 18 best songs of his blues and roots catalog and it has been very well received. He’s also appeared often in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis\, TN. \nAdmission to the show is $5 and this month all proceeds will be donated to support the good work of ECCHO food bank\, 1038 Smith Street\, Milton\, WV.
