DESCRIPTION:The Marshall University School of Theatre presents their spring production of “Alabama Rain” by Heather McCutchen at the The Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre at The Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center February 14-17 & 22-24 at 7:30pm.\nIn Alabama Rain\, Heather McCutchen tells the tale of five sisters living in a mythical southern town where it has not rained in 40 years. The play examines the perils of a stagnant existence as the sisters’ thirst for fertility and growth. Monty Lou’s been pregnant for 10 years; Laurie Laurie’s dead spirit sings from the old magnolia tree; Pheenie’s walking the entire coast of Florida; Rachel’s gone to fetch the Ouija board; and little Dallas LaDean is determined to save them all. When the order of their lives suddenly deteriorates the LaDean family begins a magical quest for water. They struggle with a mysterious well that runs deep in their own backyard\, which may or may not have water somewhere at the bottom. SUMMARY:1's Upon A Time with the Sianburg Piano Trio
DESCRIPTION:Explore the evolution of the piano trio through the lens of the great Viennese masters and the Sianburg Piano Trio in an exciting concert of firsts “1’s Upon A Time”.\nThe number is a turning point in a composer’s development\, and marks the transition from juvenile and student works to music that the composer considers mature and worthy of publication.\nHaydn’s “Gypsy” trio is an example of the composer at the true height of his powers as a master of the genre. Haydn was the first well known composer to use music based on Hungarian tunes in his compositions\, which became something of a fad a few decades later. Also\, on the program is the first work to which Beethoven gave an opus number Piano Trio in E-flat major No.1\, Op. 1. where Beethoven reveals complete assimilation of the high-classical style\, as well as his use of the style in a very personal way. The program will end with the monumental B Major Trio\, No. 1 of Johannes Brahms\, the first chamber piece published of the composer when he was only 20 years old.\nThere will be a chamber music masterclass with Marshall University students following the recital.\nIan Jessee\, violin\nSusan Lamb Cook\, cello\nGayle Blankenburg\, piano\nThis is a free concert with kind support from KVC Health Systems\, AC&S and The Webb Law Centre.

The four-concert festival will also feature the music of 17 other composers from the United States and abroad.
