SUMMARY:The Hoppers
DESCRIPTION:The Milton Performing Arts Center is hosting The Hoppers on Saturday\, November 18 at 7pm.\nThe Hoppers have been a mainstay in the field of gospel music for more than 50 years. Claude and Connie Hopper began making their way around North America on a bus in 1957 with The Hopper Brothers & Connie.\nOver the years\, the Hopper Brothers and Connie welcomed and parted with musicians and singers who went on to acclaimed service in the gospel music. Eventually Connie and Claude’s two sons\, Dean and Michael\, joined them full-time as lead vocalist and drummer to form The Hoppers. Kim Greene’s powerhouse soprano voice was added to the group in 1989\, after she and Dean were married.\nWith classic family harmonies that stay true their southern gospel roots\, their sound has progressed to new heights with each recording. Throughout the ‘90s\, the group began to see their songs achieve widespread success with number one Southern Gospel hits including: “Milk and Honey\,” “Here I Am\,” “Anchor to the Power of the Cross\,” and ”Mention My Name.” Since that time\, The Hoppers have received numerous accolades including Mixed Group of the Year from the Heart’s Aflame Awards\, Diamond Awards\, Singing News Fan Awards\, and the Southern Gospel Music Association.\nThe Hoppers have been nominated for GMA Dove Award four times\, and in 1998 Connie was presented with the prestigious Marvin Norcross award\, which is given to those with excellence in “Devotion to family\, service to Church\, and contributions to the Gospel Music Industry.” Singing News Fan Award for Musician of the Year has been given to Michael\, and Kim has consistently been awarded the Singing News Fan Award for Female Vocalist and Favorite Soprano for well over a decade.\nTickets vary from $22-$27 For Tickets or more information please call 304-743-8774 or visit www.miltonpac.com

SUMMARY:Frontier Folk Nebraska\, Ducain\, Farnsworth
DESCRIPTION:Show will be held upstairs at Black Sheep Burrito and Brews for $5 entry fee.\nAll ages!\nFrontier Folk Nebraska believes in the continuing relevance of a classic‐era kind of alt‐rock that flirts with occasional messiness in order to let its organically electric sound come together without too much art‐think or conceptualism. Faith is put in the music’s energy as the right conduit to showcase interesting songwriting… Neither from Nebraska nor a folk group\, Frontier Folk Nebraska is instead a Cincinnati band that sounds like the Replacements attacking power pop with their thrashing guitar‐and‐drum energy kept in check by their love for melody and appealing song structure

SUMMARY:Festival of Trees and Trains 2017
DESCRIPTION:The ten day festival brings “Cocoa with Santa\,” “Children’s Train & Fun Time\,” the “Wonderland Railway\,” the “Marquee Tree of Lights\,” local choirs and entertainers\, a holiday gift shop\, holiday décor and\, of course\, the trees!\nRegardless\, if you are one of the hundreds of decorators\, hundreds of volunteers\, or thousands of visitors – you will find that Festival of Trees and Trains is much more than a display of holiday décor. Imagine the community fellowship during our five day set-up\, the pleasure of being with your family and friends as you listen to local performers or watch your child dance on stage amidst the fantastic holiday trees\, beside the awesome holiday train layout\, within the historic Paramount Arts Center.\nSo many people look forward to the event\, speaking of the family tradition and telling the stories of “one year at the festival when…” The festival has been a part of us all for 33 years\, crossing generations and making memories that will last a lifetime. Perhaps this is what makes the festival so valuable to our community. We invite you to join us for this most spectacular holiday event\, during the week surrounding Thanksgiving.\nAdults $6\nChildren & Seniors $5\nCocoa with Santa Saturdays 11am – 2pm\nToy Train Fun Time Wed 22 12pm – 5pm\nFamily Night 3pm – 9pm

SUMMARY:Writers Can Read
DESCRIPTION:Each month Empire Books and News holds a night to celebrate the literary arts and the love of reading featuring published authors reading their own works and unpublished authors trying out something they’ve penned. This event is free and open to the public.\nThis month’s guest readers are Joe Limer and Cat Pleska.\nJoe Limer\, a West Virginia native from Clarksburg holds a B.A. in both English and Political Science from Fairmont State University and a Juris Doctorate of Law from West Virginia University. Joe now resides in San Diego. CA where he is a Professor at Palomar College teaching political science/legal studies as well as poetry workshops at Palomar and Mira Costa College. Beginning as a closet poet\, Joe is a winning national competitor in the poetry slam scene; a competition in which oral poets read or recite original work. He has been on three San Diego slam teams that have placed in the top ten nationally.\nCat Pleska\, is an essayist for West Virginia Public Radio\, and a book reviewer for West Virginia University Press. Her first book\, Riding on Comets: a Memoir was short listed for the 2015 book of the year by Foreword Magazine.
