DESCRIPTION:The Huntington Museum of Art will present Art on a Limb\, an exhibit of holiday trees decorated with ornaments created by regional artists from Nov. 24\, 2020\, through Jan. 3\, 2021. Although the Art on a Limb exhibit will take place\, Holiday Open House at HMA has been canceled this year because of COVID-19 concerns. \nThe Art on a Limb exhibit showcases the work of artists in The Huntington Calligraphers’ Guild\, Tri-Area Needle Arts\, West Virginia Bead Society\, and the Western Weavers Guild of the West Virginia Basketmakers Association. The Palette Tree in HMA’s Virginia Van Zandt Great Hall features individual artist palettes featuring the artwork of dozens of regional artists\, including Paula Clendenin\, Charles Jupiter Hamilton\, Lee Ann Blevins\, and the late Chuck Ripper\, among others. \n“The groups creating ornaments for ‘Art on a Limb’ have long relationships with the Huntington Museum of Art and take pride in the artworks they create to be displayed on the holiday trees throughout the Museum\,” said Cindy Dearborn\, HMA Education Director. “We are grateful to them for their dedication to this exhibit.” \nIn addition to the artist-decorated holiday trees\, HMA will present a glass creche by Roberto Moretti in the Decorative Arts Gallery\, which is sponsored by Mountain Health Network. Also\, interfaith books and symbols will be discussed in a December online episode of “Friends and Neighbors with Mr. George\,” which features HMA Educator George Lanham. \nTo help with social distancing HMA is limiting the number of people in attendance. DESCRIPTION:The Marshall University Psychology Clinic will host a weekly virtual support group focused on the impact of COVID-19. It will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursdays\, beginning on Nov. 19 and continuing for eight weeks. \nTopics discussed in this group will include various issues many individuals have experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, such as social isolation\, concern for health\, lack of coping skills\, financial stress\, adjustment to work and school\, and others. DESCRIPTION:The Village of Lights will open to the public Thursday\, December 3rd at 6 PM. The driving tour will be open from 6 PM to 10 PM every Thursday through Sunday in the month of December!  \nPlease note the following traffic patterns that we will be following: \n\n\n\n-All traffic will enter the park from the main entrance\, which is accessed from College Ave. The GPS address is 491 Park Road.\n-Traffic will continue along Park Road just past the Little League complex\, and then turn right onto Deer Run Road.\n-Traffic will continue along Deer Run Road all the way to the Soccer Complex. Traffic will cross the bridge and take a right at the stop sign. At the second stop sign\, all the traffic will be exiting onto 4H Camp Road.\n-Traffic will be one way only for the entire light tour.

SUMMARY:Dr. Carter G. Woodson Lyceum: U.S. Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams
DESCRIPTION:The Dr. Carter G. Woodson Lyceum at Marshall University will host a virtual presentation by U.S. Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday\, Dec. 4. The presentation is open to all and can be seen at https://tinyurl.com/y48dkmdo. \nThe Woodson Lyceum and its cosponsors\, Marshall Health and Mountain Health Network\, also are using this event as an occasion to update and inform the surgeon general\, as well as educate the community\, about health-related issues our region and state are confronting. Dr. Joseph Shapiro\, dean of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine\, will moderate a panel of leading experts who will provide information most people will be hearing for the first time\, but need to know. \nAdams is the nation’s 20th surgeon general. He earned bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and psychology from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in public health from the University of California at Berkeley. Adams studied medicine and earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine\, and is a board-certified anesthesiologist. \nHe previously served as the Indiana state health commissioner from 2014 to 2017\, where he oversaw Indiana’s response to the state’s unprecedented HIV outbreak\, a result of needle-sharing among users of injectable drugs. \nAdams now oversees the operations of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps\, which has nearly 6\,100 uniformed health officers who serve to promote\, protect and advance the health and safety of the people of the United States. \nAs surgeon general\, Adams’ motto has been “better health through better partnerships\,” and he has been committed to maintaining strong relationships with the public health community and building partnerships with nontraditional partners. \nThe Woodson Lyceum at Marshall University was founded in 2016 as a forum on Black history\, education and a free press. Its programs are inspired by the teachings of Woodson – a graduate and former principal of the Douglass school in Huntington\, a former West Virginia coal miner\, the Father of Black History and the creator of Black History Month. Woodson supported Black history and education throughout the year\, as does the Woodson Lyceum. The program was founded as a collaboration between the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the Drinko Academy.
