SUMMARY:Breaking Benjamin with Papa Roach\, plus Memphis May Fire
DESCRIPTION:Tickets are available to the general public starting on Friday\, August 6th at 10am local time at BreakingBenjamin.com. \nAbout Breaking Benjamin: Breaking Benjamin are no strangers to the upper echelons of the rock charts. Since bursting onto the scene with 2002’s Saturate\, the band has amassed an impressive string of mainstream rock radio hits\, with ten songs hitting #1\, numerous platinum and multi-platinum songs and albums\, 8.5 billion combined streams worldwide and a social imprint of over 6.5 million — a testament to the band’s global influence and loyal fan base. Their most recent release\, AURORA\, gave Breaking Benjamin their 10th #1 song at rock radio with “Far Away ft. Scooter Ward.” Breaking Benjamin’s last studio album\, EMBER debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and marked the multiplatinum band’s fourth Top 5 debut on the Billboard Top 200\, following 2015’s #1 debut for DARK BEFORE DAWN (Gold)\, 2009’s DEAR AGONY (Platinum) at #4 and 2006’s PHOBIA (Platinum) at #2. EMBER spun off two #1 hits at Active Rock Radio with “Red Cold River” and “Torn in Two.” AURORA and EMBER charted Top 10 across numerous countries worldwide and topping #1 charts across multiple genres\, including Top Alternative Albums\, Top Rock Albums\, Top Hard Rock Albums and Top Digital Albums. For more information\, check out the band’s website HERE. \nFOLLOW BREAKING BENJAMIN: FACEBOOK // TWITTER // INSTAGRAM // YOUTUBE // MUSIC \nAbout Papa Roach: Papa Roach\, the iconic California rock band\, is kicking open the door to a new chapter of their career with the release of “Swerve”\, a high-octane\, swagger-packed thrill ride featuring the outspoken frontman of Fever 333\, Jason Aalon Butler\, and rising LA-based rapper Sueco. The track premiered Sunday night on the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter and is available now for streaming at https://papa-roach.ffm.to/swerve. \nPapa Roach — Jacoby Shaddix [vocals]\, Jerry Horton [guitar]\, Tobin Esperance [bass] and Tony Palermo [drums] — have been one of the leaders in alternative rock for 20 years and continue to impact that space with consistent\, genre-bending releases\, the latest being “Swerve” featuring Fever333 and Sueco. The two-time GRAMMY-nominated\, Platinum-selling band\, who in 2020 celebrated 20 years since their Debut album “INFEST”\, have sold over 20 million records worldwide\, garnered over 2 billion streams to date\, and charted 20 Top 5 hit singles and Eight #1 hit singles on three different radio formats (Active Rock\, Alternative and Top 40)\, further solidifying Papa Roach as one of the most consistently successful rock bands of their era. \nAbout Memphis May Fire: Memphis May Fire makes anthems for the broken. The four-piece rock band channel a generation’s worth of angst\, frustration\, and pain\, with a focused blend of gigantic melodic hooks and crushing aggression. Even after topping Billboard’s Hard Music Albums chart and breaking into radio’s Active Rock Top 20\, Memphis May Fire refuses to sacrifice who they are or the people who made them. A new season unfolds for the band\, filled with revitalization and renewal. Stripping things down to their core elements\, hearkening back to the days when they created the music their fans most cherish\, Memphis May Fire rekindled the spark within to build an inferno of riffs and inspirational words. 2021 has seen the release of two acclaimed singles\, ‘Blood & Water’ and ‘Death Inside’\, and more music is expected soon.

SUMMARY:Captain Ambivalent at Bahnhof
DESCRIPTION:Live music in the Biergarten! \nCaptain Ambivalent is a satirical songwriting superhero with a sparkly accordion\, cape\, and boots. His glacial rise from total obscurity to semi-obscurity began at the Front Porch Music open mic in Valparaiso Indiana and has grown to include Doctor Demento\, The Midnight Special\, South Bend Public Television\, PierogiFest\, the Gen Con gaming convention\, one-man shows in Fringe Festivals and alternative theaters\, and even a brief cameo on America’s Got Talent. \nThe Captain’s not-so-secret identity\, Dan Biemer\, grew up in Louisville\, KY then spent 20 years as a Litigation Support paralegal in Chicago before un-selling out to fight criminally boring music. His songs are comic takes on the entire human condition with a special fondness for the nerdy bits. \n\nCheck “Everything” out: https://player.pbs.org/viralplayer/2365058271\nhttps://captainambivalent.com\nhttps://captainambivalent.bandcamp.com\nhttps://youtube.com/captainambivalent\nhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/0zXj0CCOygpvX3vyugxwDj\nhttps://twitter.com/CaptnAmbivalent

\n\n\nThe Captain’s not-so-secret identity\, Dan Biemer\, grew up in Louisville\, KY then spent 20 years as a Litigation Support paralegal in Chicago before un-selling out to fight criminally boring music. His songs are comic takes on the entire human condition with a special fondness for the nerdy bits. \n\nCheck “Everything” out: https://player.pbs.org/viralplayer/2365058271\nhttps://captainambivalent.com\nhttps://captainambivalent.bandcamp.com\nhttps://youtube.com/captainambivalent\nhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/0zXj0CCOygpvX3vyugxwDj\nhttps://twitter.com/CaptnAmbivalent

SUMMARY:September 4th Tuesday: "Herb & Dorothy 50x50" Documentary
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in the Huntington Museum of Art’s Grace Rardin Doherty Auditorium on Sept. 28\, 2021\, at 7 p.m. for a showing of “Herb & Dorothy 50×50\,” a documentary on the legendary Vogels. Masks are required for this event and social distancing in the auditorium is recommended. To view the trailer for this documentary\, go to https://youtu.be/kQTDgowxcVY. \n\n\nDorothy and Herbert Vogel proved that even ordinary citizens can make their mark on the art world by building a noteworthy collection. With an initial focus upon drawings\, the couple slowly amassed a stunning group of artworks. Beginning in the 1960s\, they spent their free time attending gallery openings and getting to know young artists whose work was of interest. They would typically buy directly from the artists themselves and would form lasting friendships with them. As time went by\, they accumulated more than 4\,000 objects with a focus upon minimalist and conceptual art\, including work by luminaries such as Sol Lewitt\, Christo and Jeanne-Claude\, and Chuck Close. \n\n“Community Trust Bank Presents: The Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for West Virginia” will be on view at HMA through Nov. 28\, 2021.

SUMMARY:Shifting Sediments - Closing Reception
DESCRIPTION:Shifting Sediments opens in the Birke Art Gallery in Smith Hall Aug. 30 and remains on view through Sept. 30. Shifting Sediments juxtaposes the artworks of Caroline Hatfield\, Andrew Needle and Kathleen Thum\, all of whom focus on the material qualities of the earth beneath our feet. \nHatfield has constructed a river of glistening coal slag that empties into the center of the gallery\, illuminated by the soft orange glow of an industrial beacon light. Nearby on surrounding walls\, Thum’s skillfully rendered drawings of coal make a powerful connection to the river of slag\, highlighting coal’s visual/material qualities amongst the myriad social/economic/political ones. Rounding out the exhibition\, Needle’s close-up paintings illuminate the colors and textures of natural forms as transformed by time and exposure to the elements. \nVisitors to this exhibition are invited into a conversation about time\, transformation\, and meaning in relation to the land. The public is invited to a closing reception at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday\, Sept. 29. \nAll School of Art and Design events are free and open to the public. For more information and to find out about the gallery hours\, navigate to the website https://www.marshall.edu/art-galleries/ or call the School of Art and Design at 304-696-7299. \nDue to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic\, all events are subject to change and visitors should call the School of Art and Design or check the website for up-to-date information. All visitors\, regardless of vaccination status\, will be required to wear masks in both galleries.
