SUMMARY:Steel Magnolias
DESCRIPTION:The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin\, Louisiana\, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant\, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married)\, the outspoken\, wise‐cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon\, Ouiser\, (“I’m not crazy\, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); an eccentric millionaire\, Miss Clairee\, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader\, M’Lynn\, whose daughter\, Shelby (the pretiest girl in town)\, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions\, the play moves toward tragedy when\, in the second act\, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others\, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play\, and its characters\, the special quality to make them truly touching\, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. \n$20 at the door | $15 for Seniors 60+ and Employees | Marshall University students admitted FREE with a valid ID.

SUMMARY:Aaron Lewis Acoustic Tour at The Mountain Health Arena
DESCRIPTION:Musician Aaron Lewis returns to Mountain Health Arena on February 25 at 7:30PM. Tickets go on sale November 18th at 10AM. Ticket prices range from $39-$125 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster or the Mountain Health Arena box office. Doors open at 6:30PM. \nAARON LEWIS BIO \nAaron Lewis grew up in Springfield\, Vermont\, listening to his grandparents’ country 8-tracks. Those roots inspired the multi-platinum Staind founder to return to his origins for the #1 Billboard Country Album debut Town Line and Sinner\, as well as Billboard’s #1 Hot Country Song debut “Am I The Only One\,” only the 9th time since 1958. \nHaving recorded with George Jones\, Willie Nelson\, Charlie Daniels\, Alison Krauss and Vince Gill\, Lewis has put a traditionalist brand on his outlier country. His latest album\, Frayed At Both Ends\, offers the hard touring/15-million selling workingman’s country star at his most personal and unplugged – making for an intimate record that reflects his 2023 acoustic tour.

SUMMARY:Regional Reels Film festival
DESCRIPTION:A One-day film festival of local film makers and interests featuring 4 films on Saturday\, Mar. 4 at the Keith Albee Performing Arts Center. Included films are: \nPeerless City\nPortsmouth\, Ohio was once promoted as the “peerless city\,” brimming with in- dustry. Built on the banks of the Ohio River\, people came for opportunity. Since then\, the city has weathered problems and changed slogans. This film explores how Portsmouth’s regional and commu- nity identity has evolved along with the city’s slogans. The central question of the doc is: “what role do these slogans play in constructing the identity (and therefore the narrative) of the place?” \n Picture Proof\nPicture Proof is a film about mothering and addiction. After giving birth to Piper\, Ashley enrolled in a long-term residen- tial recovery program in Louisville\, KY\, and newborn Piper went to live with her grandparents in West Virginia. One year out from treatment\, Ashley is working to rebuild her life and helping other women struggling with addiction. Picture Proof is a testament to a life worth documenting\, the love and labor of recovery\, and the beauty and potential each life holds. \n The Wake-Up Call\nCabin Creek\, WV native Dave Evans was a renowned prosthetist\, humanitarian and peace activist. At age 18\, Dave lost both legs below the knees during the Vietnam War. He dedicated his post-military career to fitting thousands of people with artificial legs\, arms\, and hands in conflict zones across the world. He was committed to transforming lives shattered by these seemingly never- ending\, interchangeable wars. Dave passed away at age 68 in Guatemala in 2020.
