SUMMARY:In the Wake
DESCRIPTION:Marshall University’s School of Theatre will open its spring season with “In the Wake\,” a topical play about politics and character in America.\nThe show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays\, Feb. 13-16 and Feb. 20-24\, in the Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.\nWritten by Lisa Kron\, “In the Wake” is a comical\, passionate and poignant play that shines a light on how assumptions affect Americans’ character and the blind spots that exist.\nThe play is a fascinating reflection of both the events of the early 2000s and its exploration of interpersonal relationships\, the conflicts of this contemporary drama are both timely and insightful.\nMarshall University students are admitted free with a valid ID. Otherwise\, tickets cost $20 at the door\, $15 for seniors and faculty\, and $7 for children under 12.

SUMMARY:Creat(i've) Made Poetry
DESCRIPTION:These workshops are intended to help encourage pre-teens & teens to tell their story\, not for an audience\, but for individual self expression and reflection. Harnessing creative literary techniques\, we will use short stories\, poetry\, or simple scattered words to share our hearts on paper. The goal isn’t to create something that is perceived as “pretty”\, but rather to build our strengths\, giving life and light to the emotions and sensations that we are often conditioned to hide inside of ourselves.\nWorkshops are organized and lead by West Virginia native poet and writer\, Melissa Clark.\nSliding scale in effect\, suggested donation of $12 per child. Parental attendance is optional. Light snacks provided.\nFor questions and more information please call (304) 710-1143
