Popcorn refreshments are provided and a brief discussion will be held afterwards. You are our neighbor: we love you and you are invited to join us!\nSynopsis:\nCharmingly soft-spoken and yet powerfully incisive expressing his profound ideals\, Fred Rogers was a unique presence on television for generations. Through interviews of his family and colleagues\, the life of this would-be pastor is explored as a man who found a more important calling to provide an oasis for children in a video sea of violent bombardment. That proved to be his landmark series\, MisteRogers’ Neighborhood (1968)\, a show that could gently delve into important subjects no other children’s show would have dared for that time. In doing so\, Rogers experienced a career where his sweet-tempered idealism charmed and influenced the world whether it be scores of children on TV or recalcitrant authorities in government. However\, that beloved personality also hid Rogers’ deep self-doubts about himself and occasional misjudgments even as he proved a rock of understanding in times of tragedy for a world that did not always comprehend a man of such noble character.

SUMMARY:Barboursville Buckle Series
DESCRIPTION:Blair Haga and his team from H&H Ranch and Rodeo of Mason County\, WV are back in Barboursville this summer. 2017 was so much fun and this year will be no exception! It’s rougher\, tougher and everyone wants to get their hands on that buckle. This is the only full rodeo buckle series in the state and events include: Bull Riding\, Barrel Racing\, Team Roping\, Steer Riding\, Calf Roping\, Steer Wrestling and the Cowgirl Breakaway. This is a rodeo that you don’t just ATTEND. With H&H\, you become part of the show itself. Mutton Bustin\, Dance Contests\, and the Calf Chasing events are a few examples of the audience participation fun to be had. This series will begin May 12 and continue through September 8 on the second Saturday of each month. DESCRIPTION:The Paramount Arts Center continues their Boykin Jazz Alley series with John Rankin\, Don Vappie\, and Matt Rhod\,y September 8 at 8pm. \nJohn Rankin is a well known New Orleans musician and performer. A versatile master of solo acoustic guitar\, he blends a New Orleans feel with originals\, jazz\, folk\, blues\, rhythm and blues\, classic guitar\, and the American songbook. He has been described as a New Orleans version of Leo Kottke or Chet Atkins. He is a singer songwriter with a wide array of songs\, vocal and instrumental\, that reflects his broad approach. His powerful harmonica playing\, in sync with his guitar\, adds a real impact to his songs and stories. A featured solo performer at most New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festivals since 1981\, he was a winner of the 1985 American Finger-Style Guitar Festival\, and won two Big Easy Awards for Best Folk Music. Although well known as a soloist\, he performs with many ensembles\, including the New Orleans Guitar Quartet and The Classic Jazz Trio. \nThe New Orleans String Kings is a jazz string trio that lives up to its regal name. With John Rankin on guitar\, Don Vappie on guitar\, tenor banjo\, and upright bass\, and Matt Rhody on violin and mandolin\, the royalty of the Big Easy string world is well represented. All three musicians like to sing as well as play. Together they balance virtuosity with humor and the engaging easy feel that typifies the best of New Orleans music.
