SUMMARY:Harris Riverfront Park Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:After the incredible success of our Huntington City Mission cleanup\, we decided to make community cleanups a regular part of Sunrise Huntington. These events are our way of directly supporting our local communities and the environment. Harris Riverfront Park has recently been underwater and in urgent need of cleaning. The park is located near the Ohio River\, and litter there is likely to end up in the water. This cleanup will directly help our parks\, wildlife\, and the families and community members who frequent this Huntington gem. We hope you will join us on April 27th for our second cleanup. \nThere will be a Sunrise meeting directly after the cleanup.

DESCRIPTION:For two nights only! Come down to the Harris Riverfront Park for a FREE circus performance like you’ve never seen! \nFLOTSAM! is a troupe of musicians\, circus performers and puppeteers traveling on a handmade ramshackle raft\, giving free performances in towns along the way. During our tours\, the raft is our mode of transit\, our home\, and our stage. Since 2019 we have performed for tens of thousands of people across eight states and over a thousand miles of river. In 2023 we did our biggest tour to date with six weeks on the Mississippi River from the Twin Cities to St. Louis. For the summer of 2024 we are planning to travel along the Ohio River from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati\, Louisville\, and beyond! DESCRIPTION:The artist lineup for “Dawg Dazzle” is out! The July 3 event at Harris Riverfront Park will be headlined by Nashville Curb Records artist Kelsey Hart with special guest Boomtown Saints. The concert will be opened by local artists Madhouse. Music will begin at 5:30 p.m. The Huntington Symphony Orchestra will also perform a “Red\, White and Boom” patriotic concert at Harris Riverfront Park’s amphitheater\, starting at 8 p.m. Free tickets for Dawg Dazzle will be available at many local businesses. Paid admission is required for the Huntington Symphony segment of the concert. The evening will end with a massive fireworks display around 9:45 p.m.

Volunteers will be provided gloves\, garbage bags\, litter pick-up sticks\, and refreshments. The memorial cleanup honors the legacy of Dr. Jeff Kovatch\, a Marshall University biology professor\, who passed away Nov. 5\, 2016 at the age of 43. SUMMARY:The American Countess to Visit Huntington
DESCRIPTION:The Huntington Area Convention & Visitors Bureau invites the community to welcome The American Countess Riverboat to Huntington on Friday\, August 18\, for the afternoon. This will be the third and final visit for this year. \nChristened in 2020\, the sternwheeler takes the best features of a riverboat paddle wheeler in a contemporary design. The fourth paddlewheel cruise ship to join the American Queen Steamboat Company (now American Queen Voyages) fleet launched on the Mississippi River at the start of the 2020 season. Built from an existing ship hull\, the American Countess underwent reconstruction\, including being lengthened by 60 feet. \nThe Countess will arrive around 10:30 to 11 am Friday morning. This particular voyage will begin in Pittsburgh and conclude in Louisville. Other stops will include Wheeling\, WV; Marietta\, Ohio; Augusta\, KY; Cincinnati; and Madison\, Indiana. \nThe boat will depart around 5 p.m. that same day. \nCompton encourages anyone who may encounter any of the passengers to give them a warm welcome. He also noted that people are welcome to come down to the riverfront to see the boat and take pictures.

SUMMARY:The American Countess to Visit Huntington
DESCRIPTION:The Huntington Area Convention & Visitors Bureau invites the community to welcome The American Countess Riverboat to Huntington this Friday\, June 10\, for the afternoon. The Countess is a sister ship to The American Queen that has made several stops in Huntington over recent years. \nThe fourth paddlewheel cruise ship to join the American Queen Steamboat Company (now American Queen Voyages) fleet launched on the Mississippi River at the start of the 2020 season. Built from an existing ship hull\, the American Countess underwent reconstruction\, including being lengthened by 60 feet. The new four deck American Countess accommodates 245 passengers on 6- to 15-day itineraries on the Mississippi\, Ohio and Tennessee Rivers. 175 passengers are booked on this trip. \nThe Countess will arrive sometime Friday morning. Passengers will then disembark and tour the city. This particular voyage began in Pittsburgh on June 7 and will conclude in Louisville on June 14. Other stops will include Wheeling\, WV; Marietta\, Ohio; Augusta\, KY; Cincinnati; and Madison\, Indiana. The boat will depart around 5 p.m. on Friday. \nThe CVB encourages anyone who may encounter any of the passengers to give them a warm welcome. People are welcome to come down to the riverfront to see the boat and take pictures. But due to safety regulations\, no one is permitted on the boat and tours cannot be offered.
