SUMMARY:Legend Has It Exhibition Reception
DESCRIPTION:Legend Has It – Hosted by the School of Art & Design – On view in the Charles W. & Norma C. Carroll Gallery\, June 15 to July 24\, 2026. \nIn celebration of the U.S. 250th anniversary\, Legend Has It presents quilts that narrate the history of labor\, transportation\, commerce\, and freedom in Cabell County and nearby areas. Each quilt reflects stories of migration\, industry\, and resilience\, honoring the contributions of women and men who shaped West Virginia’s communities and industries through both historical patterns and contemporary designs. \nEarlier this year\, the School of Art & Design put out a call for quilts and fiber pieces that captured these themes. After reviewing a wide range of submissions\, jurors selected nearly 25 works for this summer’s exhibition in the Carroll Gallery. \nLegend Has It will be on view in the Charles W. & Norma C. Carroll Gallery from June 15 to July 24\, 2026\, with a public reception on June 19 from 5–7 p.m.\, during the Downtown Art Walk. \nThe galleries are free and open to the community Monday through Friday\, 10 am to 4 pm. SUMMARY:Darkness Shall Cover Me by Katherine Akey Closing Reception
DESCRIPTION:Marshall University’s School of Art & Design proudly presents Darkness Shall Cover Me\, a solo exhibition by San Francisco-based artist Katherine Akey. The exhibition explores the human dimensions of strategic bombing in World War I through cyanotype\, quilted fiber works\, and paper sculptures informed by archaeological methods. Drawing from archival materials and personal reflections\, Akey examines how memory and material intersect. With historically resonant media and a subdued palette\, the exhibition invites reflection on the lived experiences of early bomber pilots and the lasting impact of aerial warfare.

SUMMARY:Found and Fabricated Closing Reception
DESCRIPTION:Marshall University’s School of Art & Design proudly presents Found and Fabricated\, a two-person exhibition by Asha Cabaca and Molly Davis. The exhibition brings together practices that explore transformation\, utility\, and material relationships. Cabaca’s sculptural forms contrast found natural elements with fabricated steel structures that mimic and subvert natural movement. Davis’s installations and prints elevate overlooked industrial and domestic objects\, emphasizing their physical qualities and material histories. Together\, their works create a dialogue between labor and play\, permanence and impermanence\, and the space between the organized and the constructed.
