Blenko Glass
January 11, 2025January. The holiday decor is coming down, the trees are barren, and you’re missing the color in the world around you. In a month that can feel so dull, Blenko is around to brighten. it. up!
Blenko Glass Company says, “We all need, now more than ever, handmade possessions that are unique and inspiring,” And this craftsmanship dates to 1893 where it began as a family owned and operated company, as it still is to this day. Blenko has been located in Milton, WV since 1921.

“Exquisite color, skilled craftsmen, and imaginative designs have made Blenko famous in the time-honored craft of hand-blown glass.”
The history of Blenko Glass Company begins with William J Blenko and follows a long line in the Blenko name and the current president stands as John W Blenko, MD. Blenko History on their website tells us that in the early 1880s, William J Blenko went into business for himself making what is known as rondels (Round Windowpanes), while experimenting with other processes of making glass superior to his competitors. After first producing glass that would not sell due to “a natural prejudice against a domestically made glass,” William J Blenko became discouraged and returned to Europe. However, in 1923 he set up shop at the present location, where they strive to continue this time-honored tradition. Through perseverance, intellect, tradition, and the tableware line of glass products “Blenko,” has become a household name all over the world.
On their website, you can view the Vintage Blenko Glass Catalogs, which includes every year’s catalog since 1953. You can explore their Historic Glass Preservation Line, which are pieces that are part of a recurring line of historic items meant to pay homage to the glass companies of WV gone by. They explore the history of these great glass companies and revive some of their signature pieces to be offered annually at our Festival of Glass. For over 40 years, Blenko Glass has designed and sold a limited number of stunning birthday pierces to commemorate June 20th, 1863, the day West Virginia joined the union as the 35th state.
Many photos are available of the factory and production throughout the years displaying the hard work and craftsmanship. Blenko Glass continues to share lovely photos and videos of productions and final pieces with the Hutington Area CVB for the viewing pleasure of those in the area and who follow us from elsewhere.
Blenko Glass Company offers factory tours, along with events, experiences, and a gift shop. On tours, you get to step into the “hot shop” to see how Blenko glass is made.
