Barnett Hospital and Nursing School

Dr. Clinton Constantine Barnett, Huntington native, attained his medical degree from Howard University. Soon after, he returned to his hometown and founded Barnett Hospital in 1912. The hospital was owned and operated solely by African Americans. In 1918, the hospital expanded to establish a nursing school which was run by Dr. Barnett’s wife Clara. The Barnett Hospital & Nursing School provided a place for African Americans to study and practice medicine.
