Stargazing: Perseid’s Meteor Shower: Bring a blanket or a chair and join us at the Day Use area near the swimming pool. We’ll be there around 9:00 p.m. to meet you and to watch for shooting stars, talk a little about constellations and learn about the Perseids. Bring binoculars if you have some, however you should see meteors light up the sky with just your eyes. They are called Perseids since the radiant (the area of the sky where the meteors seem to originate) is located near the prominent constellation of Perseus the hero when at maximum activity. Normal rates seen from rural locations range from 50-75 shower members per hour at maximum. The Perseids are particles released from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle during its numerous returns to the inner solar system. The Perseids will peak on the Aug 11-12, 2021, night. On this night, the moon will be 13% full. Visit www.amsmeteors.org to learn more about this meteor shower and other meteor events.
