Beech Fork Saturday Fun
July 28, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 7:00 pm
Beech Fork State Park offers some of the best recreational opportunities in West Virginia’s southwestern region. Visitors to this 3,144-acre park can hike in the hills, watch birds, fish or take a boat out on Beech Fork Lake.
10:30am Cardboard Duct Tape Boat Races! Bring your homemade boat and meet the Naturalist at the boat launch area to have your boat inspected, and then race across the lake for free camping! Remember, your boat and paddles can only be made of cardboard and duct tape, and nothing else! You must attach a rope with a one gallon jug or other inflatable to the boat to ensure we can remove debris if the boat sinks. Fastest time wins free camping, most creative boat wins free camping, and there is a secret category and prize too!
2:00pm Craft: Hobo Fishing Pole! Meet the Naturalist in the activities room to make your own hobo style fishing pole that really works! You can even use it in the 4pm fishing contest if you’re adventurous enough!
4pm Fishing Contest– Kids 14 and under can bring their fishing poles to the dock behind the boat rentals to try and win ice cream! YPP
6:00 Beech Fork Bugs! Meet the Naturalist in the activities room to see some cool bugs, and then go for a short walk with him to catch some and look at up close! YPP
