Cyrus Cassells Reading

Marshall University’s A.E. Stringer Visiting Writers Series will host award-winning poet and translator Cyrus Cassells Thursday, February 15 in celebration of Black History Month. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Drinko Library Atrium. This event is made possible by sponsorship of the College of Liberal Arts, the Department of English, University Libraries, and the John Deaver Drinko Academy. Refreshments will be provided.
Is There Room for Another Horse on Your Horse Ranch? (Four Way Books) is Cyrus Cassells’s ninth and latest volume. Everything in Life is Resurrection: Selected Poems, 1982-2022 (TCU Press) and Lorca to the Umpteenth Power (3: A Taos Press) are forthcoming in 2025 and 2026. He served as the 2021 Poet Laureate of Texas. Among his honors: a Guggenheim fellowship, a Lambda Literary Award, and the Poetry Society of America’s William Carlos Williams Award. The World That the Shooter Left Us was a Houstonic Book Award finalist and The Gospel according to Wild Indigo, a finalist for the NAACP Image Award. Still Life with Children: Selected Poems of Francesc Parcerisas, translated from the Catalan, was awarded the Texas Institute of Letters’ Soeurette Diehl Fraser Award for Best Translated Book. To The Cypress Again and Again: Tribute to Salvador Espriu, combining translations, poetry, and memoir in homage to Catalan Spain’s most revered writer, was published in 2023. Cassells teaches in the MFA program at Texas State University, where he is a Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor of English.
