Marshall’s Jazz Ensemble

Marshall University’s Jazz Ensemble I will present its first concert of the 2018-2019 academic year at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Smith Recital Hall on Marshall’s Huntington campus.
The band will perform an eclectic mix of classic big band compositions from Count Basie, Duke Pearson, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, and Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band, as well as contemporary pieces by Rich DeRosa and Earl MacDonald. Under the direction of faculty member Jeff Wolfe, the MU Jazz Ensemble I is the premier large jazz ensemble in the MU Jazz Studies program. Several members of the ensemble will serve as featured soloists throughout the concert.
The Oct. 3 concert is free and open to the public, with sponsorship from the Marshall University School of Music in the College of Arts and Media.
