Opening Reception | Echo / Locations

Marshall University School of Art & Design is pleased to present Echo/Locations, a two-person exhibition by Marshall University Fibers Professor Miyuki Akai Cook and Houston-based artist Masumi Kataoka, on view from October 7 through November 7, 2024 in the Birke Art Gallery located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center. This exhibition explores our relationship with the natural world, blending whimsical anthropomorphic animals and Japanese Folklore traditions, while also examining the intersection of craft and fine art.
In addition to the exhibit, there will be an artist talk held on Monday, October 7 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in VAC 209, where Kataoka will discuss her creative jewelry-making process and inspiration. There will be an opening reception to follow from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Birke Art Gallery to facilitate further conversation with the artists.
The exhibition will be on view October 7 through November 7, 2024 in the Birke Art Gallery, located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center at 927 3rd Ave, Huntington, WV.
Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Admission to the gallery and all events is free and open to the public.
