STEMsational Women Project
May 23 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Chloe Smalley is a graduating senior from Huntington High School attending the United States Naval Academy to major in aerospace engineering this June. Chloe is passionate about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects in her community. She has earned her NOCTI certificate in aerospace engineering through the Cabell County Career Technology Center, and during her time in the program, she recognized the extreme hardships and discrimination that women in STEM face. Upon her research of fewer women in STEM and personal experiences facing adversity in the classroom, Chloe created the STEMsational Women Project (SWP). The SWP works to provide support for women currently serving in the STEM labor workforce, encourage young girls to explore STEM careers, and raise funds for rural communities to provide STEM education. Chloe is working with West Virginia state legislators and entrepreneurs at Marshall University’s Advanced Manufacturing Center to create STEM education grants for K-12 public schools in West Virginia, hosts community STEM outreach programs to girls in Cabell County Schools, creates educational STEM content on social media platforms, and has future plans to implement a STEM-based non-profit foundation in West Virginia for students to conduct their own research. She executes all work within the SWP in style, proving that girls can be both scientifically intelligent and fashionable, encouraging others to #doboth.
