The Green Book in West Virginia
November 9 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join the Cabell County Public Library as they host Claire Tryon from the WV Division of Arts, Culture, and History. Green Books were guidebooks for African-American travelers, allowing them to safely navigate their way across a segregated and violent mid-century United States. The history of the Green Book in West Virginia was an integral part of the people and buildings that composed the vibrant African-American community within the state. This presentation also examines these historically significant sites in the present, particularly, their alterations and demolitions, and the ongoing efforts of organizations on a state and local level to combat the loss of these historic regions.
