The Mary Ingles 18th Century History Event

September 16, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

In cooperation with our partner, Beech Fork Lake State Park of WV State Parks, MITA will be celebrating the 268th anniversary of Mary Ingles’s odyssey in 1755 as she was captured by, and escaped from, the Shawnee Indians.

Friday, Sept 15, will focus on school-age groups, both public and home-schooled. There will be living history, skills demonstrations, dramatic portrayals from characters that influenced Mary Ingles’s life, as well as hands-on activities.

Saturday and Sunday, Sept 16-17, will feature living history, demos, tomahawk throw and lacross, as well as dramatic presentation and explorations into the lives of some of the people who influenced Mary’s life. Beech Fork campers and visitors are welcome to visit the camp and interact with the living historians during public hours.

The living history encampment will be open 9-5 Friday, 9-3 Saturday, 10-3 Sunday. There is no charge for any program but donations are gratefully accepted.
