Writers Can Read – Randal O’Wain and Eric Eyre

The event is free and open to the public and will take place virtually as a Zoom meeting on Monday, February 15 at 7 P.M. Randal O’Wain holds an MFA from the well-known Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing Program. He is the author of Meander Belt: family, loss, and coming of age in the working-class south (American Lives Series, 2019) and Hallelujah Station and other stories (Autumn House Press, 2020) His essays and short stories have appeared in Oxford American, Guernica, The Pinch, Booth, Hotel Amerika, storySouth, among others.
Eric Eyre won the Pulitzer Prize in Investigative Reporting in 2017 and has received numerous additional writing awards. He is now an investigative reporter at Mountain State Spotlight. He is the author of Death in Mud Lick: A Coal Country Fight Against the Drug Companies That Delivered the Opioid Epidemic. Eyre graduated from Loyola University of New Orleans and received a master’s degree from the University of South Florida at St Petersburg while on a Poynter Fund Fellowship. He lives in Charleston with his wife Lori, and two cats, BlackieBella and Abby.
The “Writers Can Read” open mic night reading series takes place on the third Monday of each month (all year) from 7:00-8:30 in Huntington, WV. This month it will again take place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event features two award-winning, published authors that serve as “featured readers” who begin the event each month. Previous featured readers have included: Marc Harshman, Denise Giardina, Crystal Wilkinson, Jonathan Corcoran, Doug Van Gundy, Robert Gipe, Nick White, and others. Afterwards, the mic is open to anyone in the audience that would like to share a creative work.
