Understanding Tulsa

he Annual Dr. Carter G. Woodson Lecture, supported by Drinko Academy – “Understanding Tulsa”: John W. Franklin will discuss the papers of his grandfather, Buck Franklin, a prominent lawyer who represented survivors of the “Black Wall Street” massacre in the 1920s. John W. Franklin is the son of the late, celebrated historian John Hope Franklin, who was mentored by Carter G. Woodson. John W. and John Hope Franklin edited and compiled “My Life and an Era: The Autobiography of Buck Colbert Franklin.” Mr. Franklin will also discuss other aspects of his family’s history, which includes ancestors from the “trail of tears.” Dr. Carline Waugh and Dr. Henning Vauth, two MU School of Music professors, will perform musical pieces from Florence B. Price, a renowned Black composer.  A reception follows.
